See, I told you so... No government shutdown (for now)

From The Wonkette
Democrats, Republicans agree on a budget deal By Alan Silverleib, CNN

80 MINUTES THAT BORED THE WORLD: Government Shutdown Briefly Averted: LIVEBLOG of the War of the Hoohaws

Not much to say...   I like how The Wonkette described the closing rounds of this so-called battle, "the super-sexy Washington wrestling match featuring Old Bigot Toady on one side and Ineffective Milquetoast Punching Bag on the other. Hooray for the World of Sport!"

A clip from the first article:

A GOP push to strip $317 million in federal funding from Planned Parenthood failed. Democrats also turned back Republican attempts to get federal dollars currently set aside for family planning and women's health turned into block grants for states.

Such a move would have given governors and state legislatures more ability to cut funding for services opposed by conservatives.

A clip from The Wonkette:

10:56 PM — Reid says, “We have a deal.”
10:59 PM — Meaning, “I’m old and worthless and I want to go home, just like the rest of my dingbat colleagues on the Hill, so we will approve nothing really right now, but then say we avoided a shutdown, and actually vote on this next week.”
11:00 PM — This is called “passing the fetus.”
11:01 PM — Obama will soon come out of his hole, see the shadow of his moral weakness, and say there won’t be a shutdown tonight so everybody go get high in a national park...

Effects of a government shutdown...

They will get paid, but it will be back pay after the shutdown. No checks will go out during the shutdown, from what I understand. For families living paycheck to paycheck, this will be devastating.

Government shutdown one step closer...

Until now, I was thinking that the shut down would probably not happen.  Republican leadership remembers what these tactics cost them back in the 1990s, the Democrats, while also remembering the 1990s, are not confident enough in their ability to spin this into a gain, and the tea party noobs confuse noise with political leverage...

However, it looks like it may actually happen in spite all of this.

I just think it is amusing that in order to prove to their base that they are doing something, the tea party reps have decided that the only thing they can do is break the system instead of changing the system.

It reminds me of a four year old smashing his favorite toy to pieces and then looking up and proudly announcing, "See, I am fixing it!"

Also, a petition asking Congress to give up their pay in the event of a shut down.  Makes sense to me.  If I throw a fit and do not go to work, I don't get paid either.

‎"Speaker Boehner, if you and the Republicans in Congress really are foolish enough to threaten a government shut-down, then put your money where your mouth is, pass Senate bill 388, and make your members give up their own government salary too!"

Obama 2012 makes it official, via email and viral video

I didn't get an email (or my spam filters didn't let it through).  I've been getting email from Obama for years, why not now?  Yes, my feelings are a little hurt.
